If you can't beat them...

Ilex aquifolium "Silver King"

Katkatkat has been down from Edinburgh for a few days helping her Mum care for her Grannie (FredaH)

An early riser when she wasn't across caring for her Grannie she was out in the garden. Living in a flat without a garden she delights in being able to enjoy the garden and also work in the garden. One job that has needed doing for sometime was cutting back some over grown hollies. Deep in the back hidden from the light was this shoot, suffering from chlorosis.

Chlorosis (according to my definition) is a lack of chlorophyll either due to nutritional problems or disease. This case is due to lack of light which is essential for photosynthesis and starch production. The colour is very like leaves that have had chlorophyll extracted (think back to testing for starch in your school days). The leaves which have been exposed to light are normal English Holly shape deep green with a "silver" (whitish) edging hence the variety name.
