A view from St Swithin

West Vancouver Island

Ventured down the west coast today to Sooke and as far along as Jordan River. Lovely wild country with big big forests stretching down to quiet pebbly beaches lined with washed up trees and lumber. Sooke had a nice harbour and rather strangely a good Austrian Bakery, but the highlight was a walk up the Sooke Potholes. Not quite what we were expecting but actually a pleasant riverside walk with views of deep chasms and pools . The forests here are in some way just like home ( broom and foxgloves aplenty and lots of spruce trees) - but in other ways totally different : the forests and trees are massive, the undergrowth verdant and rich with plants and vegetation and no big views like you get at home of moor/heath or hill.
