Yorkshire does it again!

Hanging Trees
Well, I guess it’s a sheepfold and yes it’s the work of Andy Goldsworthy. But what a sheepfold is doing with no way of getting in and why it has a tree in it is a bit of a mystery . . . and there are three of them, very similar. However I travelled many miles, then walked a long way - up and down, including 71 steps, and it has been so hot. So I hope there is some appreciation for my bringing it to blip.

It could be said to amplify a dynamic and complex relationship between wood and stone that has long been central to Goldsworthy’s work: stone being traditionally viewed as permanent and trees symbolic of mortal life. It forms a dividing boundary between two separate areas of agricultural land. It could signify also the historical tension between a forested area landscape and one which is farmed.


We were at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, which incidentally has become the Arts Fund Museum of the Year 2014. Can Yorkshire do nothing wrong at the moment!! This is such a brilliant place and well deserves the award. There were a lots of people there today, as there would be, and it was great to see them enjoying the space and the sunshine - the huge areas of parkland provide vistas of magnificent proportions; grass to play on and have picnics; plenty of space for running about; walks along paths, bridges over the lakes, woodland trails; and of course there are sculptures and galleries at every turn.

We are now staying in Nottinghamshire and I am going to a workshop tomorrow on macro photography. I hope I learn something.
