72 days to go

Backblip

In the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion in the "white village" of Competa there is a remarkable alter mural of the Assumption of the Virgin painted in 1972 by Francisco Hernandez.

It is an amazingly fluid and uplifting work and in the the same church there is an equally striking baptismal mural by him . I have since discovered he also did an Annunciation for the Cathedral in Malaga.

I was particularly fascinated by the small detail in the Assumption mural which I have posted above.

I have been able to find little more about the artist or the works and that leaves me wondering who this is - perhaps the priest who commissioned the mural, or even the painter himself?
