MonoMonday - Trees

This poor silver birch has really been in the wars.

Strictly speaking our summers are a bit too hot for a good silver birch. And then we had all those years of drought.

As a result, although this poor thing has been attacked by borers, had all its leaves burnt off numerous times, had gum tree limbs fall across it smashing branches, it still keeps soldering on.

I love the stark whiteness of the bark in winter, and the delicate leaves (when they survive) in summer are a delight. Some years we even get good Autumn colour.
