Terrible Tuesday

Balian developed a high temperature overnight which wouldn't subside with Calpol and Nurofen. Would drop a bit but not below 38, and had been up to 39.5C. No other symptoms other than very unhappy. Only settled by me holding him and walking around for most of the night. Two long calls to 111 later and their best advice was needs to be seen by doctor soonish and your GP opens in just under two hours!
Andy took Nathaniel to nursery for me, which hasn't happened in months, think Nate was excited to have a different parent drop him off and wasn't so sad.
Dutifully waited until GP opened then another hour for appointment to see GP who thought it's a virus. "Go home and continue as before and come back if worse." Thankfully Bay managed a sleep in the car which helped. But still not himself. Two hours later the lymph nodes in his neck were really enlarged so called the GP back, who agreed to re-see us. Again not sure of cause but some infection. "Monitor at home and maybe start antibiotics." By now my concerns turned to frustration and GP had to endure me telling him I wasn't happy with that (through tired tears). So he agreed to send us to paediatrician at hospital.
Thank god for GPs who realise childrens mothers know when things aren't right!
Consultant took a quick look and within 10mins Bay had an intravenous cannula placed, blood sample taken and was given antibiotics for serious bacterial infection.
By the early evening his temperature was controlled by anti-inflammatories, but he was in discomfort poor boy before they wore off. He was so tired as couldn't sleep longer than 20mins at a time, and would only sleep in my arms. He was hungry but couldn't feed or eat properly, really horrid to hear his little cry altered.
Jon and Vicki kindly dropped off our overnight things as Andy was looking after Nathaniel, and we tried to settle down for the night.
