Ida Burn

We had another fascinating day! An adventurous drive this morning, up Little Mt. Ida, with snow on the track the whole way. Going up was steep enough, coming back down was in low 4WD and 1st gear! Wonderful views as far as you could see - just wonderful. We thought it would be a fabulous place for sunset but there was no way we were going back up late in the afternoon; conditions would have been treacherous.

This afternoon we happened on the Ida Burn, almost by accident, loving a well-known haunt for ice-skaters and curling. It must be a magical sight when the lake is ice-covered and there are skaters galore! We then drove over the Raggedy Range, on a supposedly dry weather track, in very muddy conditions. Thank heaven for 4WD and an experienced driver - thanks so much Bob for today's driving!

This image is of the Ida Burn, looking north towards the Dunstan Range and Little Mt. Ida - but the latter is out of sight here.

Thanks so much for yesterday's response to Willows Under the Hawkdun Range. Wow! That was amazing - I'm amazed by all the comments and stars and hearts. Thinking about it though, it's certainly a very beautiful part of New Zealand!
