Good Evening

I might have missed this if I had not left it so late cutting the grass. A dwarf Evening Primrose, flowers freshly open at 830pm. Not a primrose at all of course, it's an Oenothera, Oenothera acaulis var aurea to be precise. Oenothera acaulis is usually white flowered. It comes from Chile where it is native to both the drier coastal, and lower mountain habitats in open places. The Alpine Garden Society tells us that it is not reliably hardy in cold or very wet winters but can be grown as an annual if sown under glass in early spring, mine came through the last, mild, winter outside. Interstingly the seed capsules only open when wetted by rain.
