Blue Salvia

Salvia patens

This is one of my favourite flowers. I inherited my love of blue flowers from my mother-in-law. She had several different varieties in her garden which I took over. My collection was extensive when I moved here. Sadly, through my lack of understanding of conditions more harsh than those in my city garden I lost most of them. The salvia has survived serious drought and weeks of frozen ground, yet it hasn't failed to produce these flowers each summer.

We have had no rain today and even had some sunshine. It was good to be able to photograph a dry flower. Water droplets can be pretty, but they can also get monotonous.
