Arequipa to Yanque

We took a bus from Arequipa to Chivay today. After a convoluted round of the hotels of Arequipa to pick up other people (during which we crossed the main square of Arequipa 6 or 7 times!) we were on our way. The roads were beautiful, slowly climbing higher through the mountains of Peru. We stopped along the way to see vicuñas, alpacas and llamas (all different breeds of kinda the same thing!), to drink coca tea before climbing to a maximum altitude of 4900m above sea level. We were then dropped off at our hotel in Yanque, a tiny village just outside Chivay.
We spent the afternoon exploring Yanque, and discovered a lovely little artisan shop where two women were working away on intricate embroidery. After buying half the shop, the ladies wanted us to try on these local hats for a photo. How could we resist??? After some deliberation we decided they didn't really suit us and wouldn't be added to our purchases!
