Desert Squirrel

About a week ago, I blipped a cone of the rocky mountain bristlecone pine. The trees at South Park were not especially old, so after a bit more research, we headed up the Mt Evans Road to the Mt Goliath Natural Area, where there are some older bristlecones. Although there are some impressive trees, the oldest known of the Rocky Mountain bristlecones are 'only' about two and a half thousand years old! (Compared to close to five thousand in the White Mountains of California).

The trees on Mt Evans have grown into some weird shapes, and the dead and dying trees that have lost their bark make amazing natural sculptures.
