The Treasure Trove

The Treasure Trove in Edinburgh's Castle Street sits incongruously in a line of shops alongside Pret A Manger, Cruise, the fashionable restaurant Oloroso and opposite Thomas Pink, an upmarket florists and Starbucks.

It describes itself in quaint, almost Dickensian terms, like this:

"We have a treasure trove of high quality, hand-made goods, jams and home baking, ideal for gifts or just to treat yourself.

The Society is a charity established to assist those of limited means to achieve an independent livelihood by promoting the sale of their own handiwork."
