Baa baa black sheep

I have never seen so many Hebridean sheep in one place so they must be doing well on this farm at Allangrange.
They were once on the rare breeds list but because of a few dedicated farmers their numbers have increased and this threat has now been lifted.
The meat is good, low in cholesterol and saturated fats and has a gamey taste. They have long been a good sheep to keep especially by Highlanders that kept them for their wool and milk as well as for their meat.

They have a double fleece with a short under coat and a thicker upper coat. The undercoat has a 'fizzy' look which gives bounce and resilience to the wool and anything that is made from it.
