Sailing through the Kyles ...

Walked at Colintraive this afternoon, largely because it's a tree-shaded road beside the sea and it was a very hot day for walking any distance. We had hardly started when I saw this attractive boat emerging from the narrows of the Kyles of Bute and heading for the open sea - I don't know what kind of boat you'd call it, but it sparked a conversation about the pleasing colour of the sails (I was told it was tan rather than brown) and the possibility that the owner was known to the friends with whom we were walking.

We walked for a total of two hours, with a paddle at the far end of the walk, and finished off with a beer in the Colintraive Hotel. It was lovely - but a bad mark to the hotel for having no non-alcoholic beer for the drivers: it's absurd that only hideously sweet lemonade should be on offer for an adult wanting a grown-up taste after a hot walk. Roadside hostelries please note!
