Bittersweet

The cruise on the Potomac River in Washington DC was beautiful last night, but bittersweet - our son had bought these tickets a couple weeks ago for a romantic date with his girlfriend, but they are now no longer together, so he gave them to us. We kept alternately enjoying the romantic setting and beautiful sights of the Washington Monuments lit up at night, and feeling pangs of sadness for his broken heart, wistfully imagining how much they would have enjoyed it. If only...

We're only as happy as our saddest child. I know it will feel better in time, but in the meantime, we're all hurting.
