Commonwealth Games Flotilla

I captured this view of the flotilla of small craft on the River Clyde from the Erskine Bridge on their way to Pacific Quay in Glasgow from Greenock. This was the first group of five, each with 50 boats approximately, stretching as far as the eye can see. In the distance, is the ancient volcanic plug of Dumbarton Rock. (Best viewed in large). I have also uploaded a new portfolio of the event.

The response by boat people was terrific with with around 1500 participants, and tens of thousands watching along the banks - the biggest flotilla in the Clyde's history, which is saying something! It is part of the official Festival 2014 programme for the Commonwealth Games. At the Quay the boats are now moored in pontoon fashion and their crews will be attending the athletic events.
