Caribbean carnival

The vibrant and exotic sounds of a Caribbean carnival filled Scarborough’s south beach on Saturday afternoon.
The organisers of the West Indian carnival staged in Leeds every year exported their exuberant and colourful show to the coast.
Lively dancers wearing white feathers and sequins, accompanied by dove-shaped puppets and a steel band, gave an energetic performance as part of the 16th annual Seafest.
Seafest was a huge success, drawing hundreds of people to the seafront in perfect summer weather.
Bands and musicians played in a marquee on the West Pier on Friday evening, most of Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
Highlights included DJ Tooley’s Gospel Breakfast, Raven, the SJT Funky Choir, Everyone Loves Ernie, Raven and Skandals, who brought the festival to a close in fine style.
Other attractions were Animated Theatre, a fireworks display, the Life Boat hammocks on the beach and a well-stocked bar.
It was a busy weekend on the seafront. Seafest coincided with Scarborough RNLI’s annual Lifeboat Day, a popular talk at the Spa by GCHQ historian Tony Comer and a whale-and-dolphin watch on the Marine Drive.
