Journey Through Time

By Sue

Well, hurry up!

We awoke this morning, quite early, with thunder! A thunderstorm moved in to the area overnight and made it to our place about 6 in the morning. Then the rain came to water the lawn for awhile. We heard about 4 or 5 booms, and then it was gone. Today was blueberry picking day, so later in the morning, off we went. You can see our little adventure with a few photos on Flickr.

I thought about putting up the barn photo, then Bill liked the little shed, but I've decided that this tells a cute little story, so dogs it is. Les, who is the property owner, worked with Bill at the garden nursery (the seasonal help, like Bill and this guy, are now done working for this year) and he invited us to his property to pick blueberries. It is open to family and friends and is on the honor system..$1 a pound. The little cute shed is the "office" and you can go in there and find large plastic coffee containers with an attached strap to wear around your neck and fill it up that way. It was a pretty slick deal, and somebody drank a lot of Folger's coffee. The weigh scale is in there and a little box where you put in the money. People come in, pick what they want, pay up, no appointment necessary. They have a lovely spot, very private and two dogs who are the official greeters.

And so, we were greeted by the sibling black labs, Sophie and Jack. Les is taking us over to show us his pond area and Jack attached himself to Bill to be his escort, and Sophie was mine, I guess..as she waited for me to fuss around getting organized after I got out of the car, as if to say, Well, hurry up! They are only 4 years old, but Sophie is grey already, and Les said he thought she worries too much. After escorting us to the pond, the dogs went back to their nap, content that they'd done their job, I'm sure.

We picked a small amount of blueberries, about 8 lbs, and we will share with my aunt. He has several kinds of berries and one type, called Chandler, are just huge. We enjoyed going there and visiting with Les. I asked about barns or anything of interest in the area to see and he directed us to a Christmas Tree farm, not far away, so we went there and I was able to get that barn, and the most magnificent view from that property, but the air quality didn't lend itself to a crispy clean image.

Okay, time for lunch and blip is in the bag. See ya later.
