Aperture on Life

Newts

My pond is teeming with newts of all stages. James and I went out with a lamp last night and counted nine, and that was just in one corner of the pond which isn't covered in plants and weed.

There are young efts who still look somewhat like tadpoles, juveniles of which this is one and fully grown newts that are a full 12cm long. Such wonderful creatures but, I'll never have frog spawn. It must be a newts favourite food!

The frog's still there, hunting from amongst the weeds, and the Slow Worm, who hasn't given up her home under a rock at the margin of the pond.
