Storm!

Yesterday was sunny & warm until about 4:30 when the sky started darkening & the temperature started to drop. Within about a half hour we had torrential rains, hail, & high winds! We managed to run for the car during all this, as we were going out to dinner with my older step-daughter & her boyfriend. Pretty exciting, as I DO like a good thunderstorm--shades of my mother! However, this morning I went grocery shopping, & saw so many trees & branches down, this being one of the worst I saw! The tree is one of many along the edge of the fence that borders Old St. Mary's Academy, & I love these old trees & this old wrought iron fence--I drive past it every day to get to work-- so it was almost painful for me to see not only the branch, but part of the fence damaged as well! The Academy & the fence were built around 1903 & the building opened in the fall of 1904 as an all girls catholic boarding school. Two wings were added in 1931 & 1935 respectively. The Academy graduated it's last class in 1991--after that it became known as the Marian Center, & began renting out classrooms as office space & meeting facillities for artists, writers, & others. There are also accounts of the building being haunted. One tennant was locking up for the night when she heard fabric swishing. Peering down the Hall she saw a nun in full habit walking toward her. Noticeably absent were the sounds of footsteps. The nun passed by her, & disappeared through the locked doors at the end of the hall. One spirit is said to be quite courteous. As a tenant entered the building with her hands full, an unseen Presence turned the lights on! There has never been any negative things happening, & in fact, everybody says when they come into the building they feel a sense of peace & calm! I've been in there myself, & it's a lovely building....definitely a sense of peace & calm, but didn't see any ghosts!! Haha! Sure hope they can repair the fence & save the tree!
