C'mon Geraint!

Commonwealth Games Road Race, Glasgow.

It was a bright sunny day as the train pulled out of Edinburgh Waverley just before 9am this morning. The sunshine didn't last long. We met a group of Andy's work mates and finally worked out the route of the race after much staring at the bizarre featureless map published on the games website.

We caught the end of the women's road race in George Square, it was fantastic to see Lizzy Armitstead and Emma Pooley. From then on the heavens opened and we got pretty much drenched. We squelched our way around Glasgow Green to watch the start of the men's race. I spent ages trying to set my camera up to get some good shots, inevitably it would dry up for a bit while I did, and as soon as any riders appeared the rain came hammering down. We stoically stayed out for a good few laps before retreating to a reception a Cycling Scotland, where they were streaming the race on a large screen and had hot drinks!

We went outside to watch the final few laps live, got a great view of Geraint Thomas's attack (but some very blurred photos), and then got a superb view of him on the last lap but I got a bit start struck and didn't manage to get the photo that I could have. This is Geraint, the well deserved winner.

407 photos taken
most of them out of focus or of riders bottoms
ahh well, there's always next time.

Also spotted Mark Cavendish giving lots of moral support to Peter Kennaugh, and Chris Hoy walked right past us.

(A small selection of not-too-blurry here).
