Sgwarnog: In the Field

Painted Lady

Not the best picture of a Painted Lady, but in the five or so years I've been paying more attention to butterflies, I've only previously seen these in Menorca.  They're not uncommon in the UK, but being a migratory species their presence is a bit dependent on fine weather drawing them across from continental Europe.

So it's been a good weekend  for my Butterflies2014 blip list, now seventeen blipped of twenty species seen.

We spotted this while 6yo and I were walking to the top of the moor. We visited the highland cattle before staging a re-enactment of @PaulFS's fine Altar to the Sky blip of a couple of days ago.

One more curiosity for the day, a rather oddly marked Ringlet that visited the garden this morning.
