Friends in Vienna

Entry #555.

Stana joined us today! Hadn't seen her since around February when she came by Leam, so it was great to catch up and have her show us around Vienna. We walked the streets of the inner city, where there's always something interesting to see at every new corner. We had dinner at this restaurant, in a tiny square hidden away don't ask me where... Before that we also went to the Danube for a beer along the alley of bars and restaurants there. And we climbed the south tower (343 steps makes you real dizzy) of the Stephansdom to see the view over the city.

Otherwise in the morning, my mom and me walked around the ring, along which there's countless monumental buildings. Then we visited the natural history museum and the classical art museum (KHM), both of which were overflowing with stuff to see. Both were very interesting though. Highlights from the first included the collection of meteorites, the 25,000 year old Venus, the animal display and the photography exhibition on Chernobyl. Highlights at the second one were the vast collections of Caravaggio, Arcimboldo, Titian and Rubens, and the old backgammon sets.

Sundays are useless in Vienna, unless you've got something planned to visit. Everything but the restaurants are closed.... Also, big storm today. A couple of downpours and nonstop lightning in the evening. Summer is bursting out, weather forecast is predicting the same over the coming week! At least its a bit fresher. No dampening our spirits though.

peace
