100 years on

The events of 100 years ago have been cause for reflection today, for remembering and for gratitude. My grandfather's generation experienced the unimaginable, and for that we owe our freedom.

It was poignant to spend today at a motor industry event driving German cars. This was the scene that greeted us at Volkswagen's starkly efficient training centre in Milton Keynes: regimented rows of electric e-Golfs.

My grandfather went off to the Great War on horseback. I can't help wondering what he would have thought of the cars we drove today, and their electric propulsion.
