Perfect Day

The trip to the zoo was cancelled due to the possibility of inclement weather so contingencies came into play quite quickly......
Three pans of bread from Tesco and two bags of carrots from my local veg supplier.

I collected a friend and her two children and we headed for a game of bowling with a few surprises promised for the day. A diversion to Swords Estuary to feed the very large bevy of swans went down very well with the kids as they had bread (enter stage left three Tesco pans!!!) The swan pictured was somewhat excited about the presence of a black Tasmanian swan too close to her brood of three cygnets...

On then for a game of bowling which was good fun though my erratic bowling can most certainly be attributed to the unavailability of size 14 balls.... I'll stick to that excuse...thank you very much...

My friend wanted lunch including chips but insisted on vinegar being available and then looked stunned when I thanked the server and walked out after being told none was available!!!

We did, however, get a takeaway and had a lovely picnic in the woods of a 1760 acre park surrounded by ducks, herons and various wildlife including squirrels, turtles, rats and various exotic birds....lovely.

Then a trip around the Fifteen Acres for the next surprise. When I asked the kids to get out of the car they were confused as to what could be exciting about some football pitches until they turned a corned and saw 200 fallow and sika deer two hundred yards away....and more excited when they managed to feed them by hand from the carrots we have brought with us. To finish off we had ice creams at the papal Cross in the park.

After that a trip to the back roads of Dublin airport where we spent half an hour watching planes land and take off from a view they had seen only in films.

We took the back roads home to see the patchwork of barley, oat and corn fields.

Tonight a trip to the harbour in Balbriggan finished a fun filled day....Tired kids...tired adults...just saying
