There are those who will tell you the football season doesn't start for another 2 weeks.

Those who only watch the English Premiership are correct in their view, but they are missing out on a whole lot more.

Real football is back on Saturday (Friday night in some lucky cases).

Now I fully accept AFC Fylde v Brackley Town in the Vanarama Conference North is highly unlikely to feature anyone who played in the World Cup.

I doubt if we'd even get a World Cup referee!

The football is unlikely to be "world class".

There are a few other things we won't get as well:
Diving
Play acting
Trying to get other players booked or sent off
Histrionics from players and managers
Segregated spectators

We will, however, get players, officials and supporters competing honestly with full respect for the sport.

We will get a great pie, excellent beer and a very good programme to read.

Whatever happens this season AFC Fylde will finish in the highest position in the football pyramid in its history.
