Plus ça change...

Timber (really)

If yesterday was the 'before', this is the 'during' and tomorrow you may get the after.

The big tree is finally down! I am happy to report that no birds were harmed, and no people either!

Very busy day tackling the undergrowth where a trench will soon be dug for the water and electricity supply to the shed and, one day, the pool. Those brambles are hard work. Mr B had to stop attacking them with the hedge trimmer when it started smoking... So we carried on with secateurs, thick gloves and lots of swearing.

Later off to collect an exhausted but very contented TallGirl from riding camp, where today's excitement had been galloping REALLY fast and lunch by a lake. When we got back, leaving a bunch of lemon cakes to say thank you, the guys had already made a start on cutting down the tree. As it is (was) tall enough to reach the house, we hid inside behind sturdy shutters... But all was well and the tree was pulled down exactly where it was supposed to fall. I think they may have piled the branches on top of my (baby) fig tree.... But I'll figure that out tomorrow. When I really must get on with the planning application.

A difficult situation has my thoughts elsewhere tonight.
