Political landscape

A trip to Krakow today and one thing you really noticed when you fly over places like this is the layout of the land. As far as I know all these little stripy fields are a result of the communist way of allocating land to everyone. At the end of most of them is a house, everyone managing their own little plot as they like, in stark contrast to the rolling fields you'd see in other countries.
It leads to some funny looking patterns from the air.
