The Walton Cross

The cross base stands at 4'9" high x 3'6" wide, dates from the 10th-11th century and is decorated with Saxon and Viking symbols. It is said that at one time a 15' high cross stood here, and that it was referred to as a "wagestan" or waymarker.

The Walton Cross can be found at the side of a footpath just a short way from the road (Windy Bank Lane).
