Grumpy Old Man

Nave of hearts

We left promptly this morning to visit the Ness Botanic Gardens, at Neston on the Wirral Peninsula. A lovely garden with a great plant collection, but I was very surprised at the huge number of weeds there - great swathes of willow herb and thistle in seed, blowing across the garden. When I asked one of our couples, however, how they'd enjoyed the place, they said it was a pleasure to see such a weed-free garden! Maybe you see what you want to see!

We returned to the hotel and went into Chester for lunch and to spend the afternoon in the town. It was a do-it-yourself afternoon and evening, so a small group of us visited the cathedral and while the ladies stayed for Evensong I climbed the tower - 215 steps, I think, and very narrow. Amazing views from the top, but I liked this peep into the nave while the choir, out of sight below, were singing. We walked some of the city walls and had a meal in a tiny Indian restaurant. A great day.
