Sri Lanka - Day 9 - Kandy

We came to Kandy via the newly developed 18 Hair Pin Bend road passing Mahiyangana. Kandy literally means the "City on the Hills" so named as it was protected by the mountains and dense jungle. This was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings before giving it to the British in 1815AD (they were fed up of the King).

Unfortunately this afternoon we visited a gem factory. Remember day 4 and the wood factory...need I say more.

This evening we saw some fire walking and visited the golden roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha - by far the most important place of worship for Buddhists worldwide.

Back blipped yesterday due to rubbish internet.
