Hidden gem

On the 29th June I blipped a lone poppy in the garden, the only one surviving from the profusion I had enjoyed last year. I thought.

But here you see another one. It had seeded itself in a pot containing a nectarine plant which over winters in our front porch. Having put it out again for the summer this single poppy started to grow. I dashed our to,photograph the flower, this, morning as I'm sure the forecast wind will batter it into oblivion by tomorrow.

The nectarine is the remaining plant of two we grew from nectarine stones back in the '70s. We had an Italian holiday and had nectarines for desert. It's unbelievable now but we had never had them before so brought the stones home with us! Both plants grew but we have never had any sign of fruit. Sadly we lost one, probably through neglect but keep the other as a memento.

We had a fabulous meal last night. We knew our neighbour had great thespian talent but were unaware of his culinary prowess! After a lovely meal we had a half hour floor show watching three badgers in the back garden. Thank you P and D for a super evening and a short walk home!
