As Far As I Know

this may be as good as it gets.
Which is ok by me.
I’m happy to sit here as the sun sets
watching other folk stroll by the sea.

And this evening my active imagination
is not going to invent their conversation.
Or, if I can’t help myself, I shall
keep it light. All will be well.

‘That’s no way to live your life I told
her. It’ll bruise up in no time.’

Hush! No more of that. I’m
restricting the rest of the poem
to praising this seaside scene
and saying what a lovely day it’s been.

And that's the truth
