Layer Marney Tower

Lower Marney Tower was built as a family home nearly 500 years ago and it remains a family home today.
The house was built by Henry, 1st Lord Marney, who was Lord Privy seal to Henry VIII. Intended to be a testament to his wealth and status, England's tallest Tudor gatehouse remains an iconic building dominating the Essex skyline.
The views from the Tower down to the River Blackwater are wonderful and well worth the ninety nines step ascent.
This was also home to the Antiques Roadshow a few weeks ago, which gave us the idea to visit.
