Port Hills

I work near the "industrial" area of Christchurch, which is nestled at the base of the Port Hills, ironically in one of the potentially more attractive areas of the city. Several rivers/streams also spill into the nearby estuary and animal and plant life abounds. I say "industrial" as the area consists of at least 3 smoke stacks (emitting steam), a handful of oil storage silos, and a number of warehouses.

The backdrop is the Port Hills, reserve land that is a popular recreation area, crisscrossed with walking tracks and mountain bike trails. It's a beautiful area as it over looks the city, across the Canterbury plains, and to the mountains - only an hours drive away. Many blips here I'd say ;-)

The contrast is quite stark - oil storage and nature ...

They are called the Port Hills because on the other side is the ... port, of course.
