hitchBOT !!

He made it!

He was plunked down on the side of the highway near Halifax, Nova Scotia on July 27 and arrived in our harbour, via Songhees First Nation canoe, today. That's about 6000 kms! And he hitch-hiked the whole way.

hitchBOT's website.

Steve Sxwithul'twx (Penelakut Tribe) picked him up from the ferry at Swartz Bay, (Steve's the one on the left), drove him down to the canoe, then took him for high tea at The Empress Hotel.

Lordy! The excitement in our Newsroom when hitchBOT arrived just in time for the 5 o'clock broadcast?! It was like the time Jane Goodall arrived with a chimpanzee! Animals and robots ... always good TV.

hitchBOT's a little worse for wear (to be expected when you haven't had a wash for three weeks), but gathered loads of trinkets and shiny adornments along the way, not mention felt tip tattoos.

And the press?! Who's ever got that much press from their thumb?

Some snaps along the way.
