Kanimbla Valley

This is looking across the Kanimbla Valley back towards Katoomba and Blackheath, which would be on the escarpment at the extreme left of the picture. The Kanimbla is the next valley to the west of the Megalong Valley.

We were driving south through this beautiful countryside on the way to the ski fields. Tonight we are staying at our national capital, Canberra, 3.5 hours from Blackheath, so we can get an early start on the rest of the trip to the snow in the morning.

The worst part of the holiday is when we reach the "ski tube" where we leave the car for the week and catch the train with all our gear and food. It's only 15 mins to the resort but then we need to queue for over snow transport to our lodge, another 15 mins or so. A fair bit of hassle loading stuff on and off etc but once there we can finally relax.

The forecast for tomorrow is rain, the skiers nightmare. But there may be a bit of snow Mon/Tues and then sunshine. Not that I place much store in the predictions.

Helen and Julia are driving separately from Sydney and we will join up with them in the morning. Julia has spent all day at a friend's pre-wedding party and sounds distinctly the worse for wear. Seems like the "hen's do" is as big as the wedding these days. In my time it was a small function for helping the bride stock up on tin openers and potato peelers.
