Heather heaven

Monday
After a fairly early breakfast, we set out for Sheffield to go visit my brother and sister-in-law for the day. We had hoped to arrive around 11am in time for morning coffee, however we ran into dreadful traffic, and ended up taking a rather circuitous route, arriving about 40 mins later than planned. As we approached Sheffield over the moors, we were struck by the wonderful expanses of heather - I don't remember ever seeing it better. I suppose it's often a case of not being there at the right time, however Peter and Judy agreed they had heard from several people how magnificent it was this year. So after lunch, we headed out back onto the moors, near the Surprise View on the road to Hathersage. We were able to admire the heather under different weather conditions - cloud, then sun and finally rain! I hoped to see a rainbow, however we didn't see one until we were in the car on the way home. In the evening we were joined for dinner by my nephew and his girlfriend - the first time we had met her. We couldn't linger too long after dinner, since we had an early start the next morning, taking Jen to Manchester airport.
