Honey from the bees

On the path to the coast an underground bumble bee nest has been ransacked. Badger's work: they love the larvae and are strong enough to tear up turf, roots and stones to get them.
Some people suggest that culling badgers would benefit bumble bees whose numbers have fallen drastically. But the loss of natural hay meadows with their wild flowers, in favour of fertilized grassland for silage, has been the main cause of the wild bees' decline.
