The Edge of the Wold

Quack

The ducks are in eclipse plumage, and they all look the same. At first, I assumed this mallard was a female, but a closer look shows there are a few green feathers on the head, so perhaps she's a he after all. In any event, this one and a few friends were hunkered down on the salt marsh on Arnside Marsh, safely out of disturbance way on the other side of a big creek.

It's been overcast, cool and rainless - Summer's end is nigh.

There's been no sign of Reg all day, which given the lack of sunshine, is less surprising than yesterday's absence. Wifie is encouraging me not to fret, she thinks the unfamiliar noise and vibrations from the chainsaw may have driven him into hiding. Let's hope she's right.
