Feather Duster

I came home yesterday to a ghostly image of a pigeon on the window. This morning I could see that there are two images.

I posted a pic of a dead wood pigeon last month that had broken its neck flying into the glass. There is a dialogue taking place in the Letters page of the paper about jaywalking pigeons. Are pigeons just plain stupid?

It is thought that they might actually fly at their own image. The imprint on the glass is formed by feather dust which comes from the birds' powder down feathers. Pigeons don't have a preen gland and keep their plumage waterproof by spreading the feather dust that comes from the crumbling of powder down all over themselves.

If you look closely at my pic you can see the bird's head at right, lower, rule of thirds position. Even its eyes are visible.

Some like to think of angels, souls and ghosts when they see images like this. I wasn't around so don't know whether the two birds survived.
