Grasshopper

Sometimes I get lucky & a blip just magically appears, like it did today. I was backing up into my driveway & noticed this grasshopper had jumped up on the window for a free ride! I had the camera in the car so got out & took some pictures of it. It took me a while to identify it---I had no idea there were so many different kinds of grasshoppers! This one is called "Melanoplus Femurrubrum" (femur = thigh & rubrum=red, so also known as a red-legged grasshopper). They can be found in Mexico, the U.S. & Canada, & they like meadows, grasslands, crop borders & roadsides---Oh, & they also apparently enjoy hitching rides on windshields! Nice detail on LARGE :)
