Resilience

While I was away at Cambridge Folk Festival, my Smokebush (Cotinus Royal Purple) was savaged by a deer. I came home to find half the branches torn off the stem and strips of bark chewed from the trunk and remaining branches.
There are a lot of deer in North Norfolk. I see roe deer in the garden from time to time; there are also a lot of muntjac and a fair few red deer around. So I was glad to notice signs of resilience in the young tree. If you look closely, you can see new growth just starting to appear.
