In the footsteps of medieval knights

Today we set off from Penshurst planning to walk half of an ancient 34 mile circular walk around the parishes of Tonbridge as featured in this book. Between miles 8 and 10 the only thing that kept me going was the knowledge that the White Rock Inn was on our route.

The publican explained the difference between the relatively new Tonbridge ale which is hoppy and bitter, and the popular sweeter and malty Harvey's ale from Lewes in Sussex. He said the sweetness acts like chocolate, making people come back for more. As we were re-tracing the footsteps of the old Tonbridge knights we felt we had to drink Tonbridge ale. It tasted quite delicious to me.

However even with the beer I could only manage another 2 miles.
