Nanluoguxiang Hutong

Jenny and I went into Beijing yesterday to do a bit of shopping and for a look around the famous hutongs. These are narrow back streets that run throughout the city like a network of capillaries. They are traditionally residential but in some areas they have sprouted bars, restaurants and shops and are the focal point for Beijing's nightlife. We had some noodles and then went for a few beers before a torrential rain storm hit and we had to wade through ankle deep water to flag down a taxi home.

This photo was taken in the one of the most popular hutongs called Nanluoguxiang a couple of hours before the rain started and I think it sums up the busy dynamic life of the hutong.
