First Day of Spring

These old-fashioned double daffodils are significant to me for two reasons. They were given to me by a dear friend many years ago and I think of her when I see them. She gave them to me after I told her about the happy memories I have of them from my childhood. We moved to Golden Bay in springtime, and I remember the first time we went down the valley to Takaka. The countryside was lush and green, and in many places masses of these double daffodils grew along the fences and in the paddocks. I thought Golden Bay was named after them. All the years I was growing up I loved that trip to town in springtime.
