Quod oculus meus videt

Uh, Oh

This was moving day, we were due to set out at 2 pm for the 90 km boat trip back to Longyearbyen. at least it was until the elements intervened! The wind direction had changed completely around pushing large waves against us for the trip back to civilisation. Harri, our guide looked pensive, as only a Finnish guide can and the cogs started to turn. First he planned to make a short run to Barentsburg, where we could pick up a larger boat, immune to the waves that would make the polarcirkel boat bounce around like a cork. No go, the larger boats had been cancelled due to lack of passengers. We were passengers!

So Plan C. Wait out the weather and hope to find a window of opportunity to get back on the polarcirkel boat. It is now 5:30 pm and Harri has just said 'early dinner then we'll make a quick run for Longyearbyen' I thought I had better post now so you have the view across the bay in the general direction of our forthcoming trip. Fingers crossed for a safe passage.

One thing it has allowed is for me to quickly create a blog of the trip so far. If you are interested I have called it Loving the Arctic Light. Plenty more pictures to give you a flavour of the trip.
