Water Music

Our local New Music Works Ensemble sponsored MusicCircus, a musical street collage celebrating the work of John Cage. For one hour the balconies, doorways and patios of our downtown main street featured Cage's music in erratic combinations. I watched/listened to Water Music, performed by Aiden McKee, on vibraphone and various objects (which included a pennywhistle, a deck of cards, and a radio that was tuned to random frequencies during the piece). The score was written on large white boards in beautiful calligraphy, with directions such as "Pour water from one receptacle to another". Aiden did this very well. It was fun, it was interesting, and I have no idea what was going on. He drank the water at the end of the concert.
