Stonehenge

A last minute change of plan and we ended up at Stonehenge for the day, rather than a trip to London.

I haven't been to this ancient site for years and I was amazed at the sheer volume of people visiting. Special buses take tourists to the stones from the car park and new visitor centre, as they are quite a distance away. The first time I saw Stonehenge, the road ran very close and you could walk up to the stones and touch them.

Whilst eating our picnic it was good to 'people watch'. So many just seemed to want a photo of themselves in front of the stones and had their back to them most of the time, taking 'selfies'. The Japanese have this off to a fine art and have their small cameras on special poles to enable them to get the best angle.
A school bus load of children came to the site, sat down on the grass for 5 minutes and then left. The teachers didn't even take them to walk around the stones!

We had a great day and the weather was perfect.
