Beacon

Going into town for a haircut, I couldn't resist stopping to photograph the clouds. This pole is part of Lézignan's heritage: it's a beacon on the Aéropostale line from Toulouse to Casablanca. Launched in 1927, the flight took 13 hours and involved aviation pioneers such as Mermoz and Saint-Exupéry -- who wrote his first novel, Courrier Sud, based on his experiences. The instrumentation in these primitive planes was virtually non-existent, so the pilots relied on a trail of beacons to pick their way across France towards Africa. This is one of them.

Fais de ta vie un rêve, et d'un rêve, une réalité. -- Saint-Exupéry

(Make your life a dream, and your dreams reality.)
